Unarmed security guards within 90 days of hire. NY DOS requires the 16-Hour OJT on file to keep your registration current.

- Applying your role to a specific worksite and post orders
- Access control, patrol procedures, and use of equipment
- Fire safety, emergencies, and evacuation procedures

- Communication, conflict de-escalation, and professional conduct
- Safety and threat awareness on the job

- When do I have to take this?
- Within 90 days of being hired by a registered security employer. The clock starts on your hire date, so do not wait.
- Can I take it before I am hired?
- No. New York requires you to be employed by a registered security company before you complete the 16-Hour OJT.
- What happens if I miss the 90-day window?
- Talk to your employer and to us right away. Falling outside the window can affect your standing with NY DOS, and we can help you understand your options.
