Questions about this course
- Do I need this before I can work?
- Yes. New York requires the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment before you can apply for an unarmed Security Guard Registration. You take it first, then apply to NY DOS.
- Does this course make me a licensed guard?
- No. The course gives you a certificate of completion. New York State (the Department of State) issues the registration after you apply and pass a background check. The school trains you; the state registers you.
- How long is the certificate good for?
- The 8-Hour Pre-Assignment certificate is valid for 90 days for the purpose of applying for your registration, so plan to apply soon after you finish.
